Delaware River Shad Fishermen’s Association

Mission

We the undersigned, being convinced of the great benefits to be derived by protecting the environment and the beautiful Delaware River, and all its tributaries, including in particular the annual runs of the American Shad, and being desirous of preserving these natural resources, have formed ourselves into an association under the name Delaware River Shad Fishermen’s Association.

The name of this organization shall be the Delaware River Shad Fishermen’s Association, originally incorporated January 19, 1977, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Objectives

The object and purpose of this association shall be that of protecting the Delaware River shad, the Delaware River, and its tributaries. The Association shall also endeavor to enhance the annual runs of the American Shad and other migratory fish species. The Association will endeavor to keep the River flowing free of obstructions and any other detriment.

At the September 15 DRSFA meeting, Dave Jones, a club member, spoke to the club on the dangers of the Marcellus Shale's gas drilling, citing personal experiences. The following motion was passed unanimously during the regular business meeting. We feel it is a timely action which should be displayed as breaking news on the web site and that all members should actively support:

The motion was that the Delaware River Shad Fishermen’s Association go on record to recognize the dangers and inherent risks in gas drilling and oppose any new permits for Marcellus Gas Drilling and also favor extending the moratorium against any existing permits until all safety issues are followed and adequate personnel can be staffed to monitor all operations. We believe no water should be contaminated through this operation. For more information, visit the following websites.
