Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Thursday April 1st 7:55 am
"Fished Lambertville..." what kind of fishing were you doing yesterday? Shore or boat? Even with the weather fouling us up that was an outstanding report and gives me great hopes.
Helmut | Montague | Wednesday March 31st 7:45 pm
Hi! You've reached the SHAD HOTLINE. Sponsored by the Delaware River Shad Fisherman's Association. This your report for Wednesday March 31st. Well... the river staged at Riegelsville at 9 feet 3inches and is 49 degrees! Anybody else miss the SHAD HOTLINE!?!? Please keep the reports coming. Good fishing!
David | Philadelphia | Wednesday March 31st 5:47 pm
Joseph... email sent. Hopefully we can get together and fish soon!
| | Wednesday March 31st 3:38 pm
Fished Lambertville area from 8-12am, 49.7 temp river dropping. Ended up with 30 fish netted, lost a bunch. Spoons and darts worked. Surprised at the size of these early fish, lot of big roes.
rusty balls | | Wednesday March 31st 1:58 pm
The river is coming way up according to the chart and temps are gonna dip its gonna kill the bite for a few days
Riverwolf | Coopersburg | Tuesday March 30th 10:26 pm
Fishing slowed down today.....spotty catches.....River stage 8.8. Water temp at 48....nice early run of fish.....Best yet to come.
BigD | Hamilton | Tuesday March 30th 8:40 pm
JoeC..just got back from Trenton, got 1 and 2 good hits. One guy said he had caught one when I got there, 4:30..did not see any other fish caught
Phil M. | Sandyston | Tuesday March 30th 6:24 pm
Whether you're catching them or not, have any you of "boat" guys been spotting any shad moving upstream anywhere?
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Tuesday March 30th 8:10 am
David, Emali me...JosephMTree at yahoo dot com.........I tried the Delaware at Trenton yesterday midday. I was just in time for the bottom of the tide which is just the wrong time to be there. I stayed long enough to see the tide rise 3 feet but there was no joy for me. At least I didn't lose any rigs!
RUSTY BALLS | | Tuesday March 30th 6:51 am

Gonna try to swing/indicator fish shad darts near Fairmount Dam later this week. Any idea what flows are more ideal for fly fishing for shad, and about how deep is the good shad water underneath the dam? Trying to decide between a poly leader and a full sinking fly line.
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Monday March 29th 2:30 pm
I picked up somebody's fly rod case from the rocks by the Fairmount Dam yesterday. I have absolutely no use for it so either describe it and it's yours or indicate that you might want it and you've got it.
Webmaster | Allentown | Monday March 29th 2:25 pm
The Shad Hotline has been discontinued - I've deleted the post with the old numbers.
Charles Mcquaid | Poconos | Monday March 29th 1:15 pm
It was an actual number as of 2 years ago. Called it frequently to see how people were doing and where they were catching. And it was informative. I guess it has been fazed out for whatever reason. Wasn’t meant to steer anyone wrong.
Joe middy | Easton | Monday March 29th 11:16 am
People putting phone numbers on this are spam numbers for insurance! BEWARE!
Charles Mcquaid | Poconos | Monday March 29th 11:16 am
Seems like the Shad hotline phone numbers I posted are no longer in service.
| | Monday March 29th 9:37 am
Conowingo area not producing yet. Currently in “spill conditions”.
| | Monday March 29th 7:51 am
A Shad can travel 3 to 5 miles per day according to the books. If the water is high they can go a lot farther than that.
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Monday March 29th 7:43 am
WG, you lurking?
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Monday March 29th 7:42 am
To the un-named person looking for a shad fishing tackle shop: if it's just lures you're looking for I recommend calling Rusty @ Rusty Balls Tackle 484-239-4723. He's got a listing in the Classifieds here. I have dealt with him for years. His darts are top quality and I don't buy spoons. I've always found him helpful and responsive.
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Monday March 29th 7:31 am
I broke the ice Sunday morning on the Schuylkill. I got there and the tide was bottoming out. I had my first hit of the season and lost my first dart to a badly tied knot. Sigh. I ended up with 2 bucks, 1 hickory and a herring. All on double dart rigs. All on the lower / smaller dart. Color didn't seem to matter.
Rob Wright | Montague | Sunday March 28th 9:13 pm
Does anyone know how far a shad travels in a day?
CS | New York | Sunday March 28th 12:24 pm
Has anyone caught any in Belvidere area? I have had some good luck early by the bridge from shore in the past.
| | Sunday March 28th 12:18 pm
Lots of fish being caught mid river this weekend
Tkos | Harmony | Sunday March 28th 11:19 am
Shad hooked but not landed while wading this morning before the rain in harmony. You can't catch them if you do not try
KEVIN INGRAM | scudders falls | Sunday March 28th 8:52 am
River was stained yesterday with lots of debris on the lines. Water temp rose to 53 by 3pm. Few boats out. Few fish caught in the Yardley area. Rains today will not help and cooler air temps coming next week will slow down the bite, It's early yet so have patience. Spring weather can be unpredictable as can changing temps which negatively affecting the bite. Tight lines and see you on the river. Kevin

joe d | Franklinville | Friday March 26th 2:54 pm
anyone catching shad at map 34 35 Burlington county boat ramps? thx
joe d | Franklinville | Friday March 26th 2:43 pm
anyone catching closer to wwb gloucster area
Charles Mcquaid | Bushkill | Friday March 26th 1:06 pm
Smithfield beach is best to launch a boat. Bushkills good. Eshback best for smaller boats. Really depends on what stretch of river you plan to fish.
| | Friday March 26th 11:35 am
If You launch at Dingmans go out 75 yards and down 100 yards and set up. For whatever reason that is where they are.
R-dog | | Friday March 26th 11:12 am
Anyone know which is a better location to launch for Shad? Bushkill launch, Smithfield Beach, or Eshback
Hoofty | LENHARTSVILLE | Thursday March 25th 6:25 pm
Joe C. Dunno. I haven't been over that way in quite a while.
Charles Mcquaid | Bushkill. | Thursday March 25th 4:39 pm
Bushkill. Don’t think they’re here yet. Water is high slightly stained and lots of debris in the water.
| | Thursday March 25th 3:53 pm
Hi, Hoofty. I reached out to deefed and will be buying the rod and reel from him. Also, I'm from the Media area in southeast PA. Can anybody point me toward the best (or best few) tackle shops that specialize in shad fishing? I'm willing to drive quite a ways, as there are none down my way that I can find.
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Thursday March 25th 1:10 pm
Hey Hoofty, can you answer a local info question for me?...What's going on with Route 143? It was closed for a couple months, reopened for a weekend, and now seems to be permanently in detour mode. I'm guessing that a section of it must have slid down to the creek or something.
Hoofty | Lenhartsville | Thursday March 25th 11:18 am
Hey deeded, if KELARGO don’t want that rod, I’ll take it. Thanksp
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Thursday March 25th 8:55 am
FYI, you can get temp and flow info for the Schuylkill at PhillyRivercast.org Temp is still 51F, but flow rate is up to 18,100 cfs (Honking!)
David | Philadelphia | Wednesday March 24th 3:35 pm
Hey Joseph - I might be going this Friday as well to the Skuke if you wanna meet up and give it a shot. I'll be chuckin my fly rod. The high/muddy water might not be great though. If you wanna contact me hit me up at 4086637543!
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Wednesday March 24th 12:45 pm
Water Temp: 51 oF | 11 oC River Flow: 3860 cfs >>>Schuylkill River...I'm for trying it this PM.
Duff | | Wednesday March 24th 9:29 am
Hmm... Strange... Conditions were perfect Tuesday at my location. Snagged two large healthy quilbacks and a good size buck. But no real hits.
KELORGO | | Tuesday March 23rd 11:19 pm
Hi, deeded. I may be interested in the rod and reel. Please give me a call at 484-798-8265 on Wednesday if you get the chance. Thanks, Kelorgo
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Tuesday March 23rd 7:46 am
"Kelorgo, I have the perfect shad rod..." sounds like a good deal to me! Load the reel up with 8 or 10# braid and you have a near perfect shad fishing setup. It will cast a mile and you will feel every time a fish even breathes near your dart.
KEVIN INGRAM | Philadelphia | Monday March 22nd 8:50 pm
River staring to drop and clear up. Temp today at Lambertville 46.5. Reports of a few shad landed at Scudders Falls this week. With Warmer day temps coming near weeks end will result in rising water temps this week which will turn on the bite. Plan to get out this week in the lower river. Will post a report with the results. More showers predicted for Wed but mot will be light and South of the main stem of the Delaware River. Significant rains predicted for Sunday which will hamper fishing conditions with higher dirty water. Tight lines and see you on the river. Kevin
deefed | | Monday March 22nd 2:23 pm
Kelorgo, I have the perfect shad rod that I bought for my son but he moved away. It's a 9' pinnacle with a brand new shimano reel. Still has the plastic over the handle and original tags and packaging for both. It is the perfect shad rod as I have been using the same setup myself. I will sell them for $100 and throw in some darts to boot. Where are you located at?
RUSTY BALLS TACKLE & GUIDE SERVICE | | Monday March 22nd 5:32 am

Riverwolf | Coopersburg | Sunday March 21st 1:55 pm
