Hi Tony | e c twp lancaster co, I've not witnessed it myself, but i have it on good authority that Shad have gotten to the Flat Rock Dam.

I fished the NJ side from shore yesterday, 5/12 from 5 to 7p.m. I landed 2 bucks on my home made flutter spoons. I had a few other hiys as well. On 5/11 I was also out and hooked fish at multiple spots from Milford PA to Walpack area.

Rob - great job getting the ramp open! I am sure many should be thanking you for the effort.
Rob Wright | Montague | Tuesday May 12th 9:18 am
Fishing from a boat. Flutter spoons. I made several phone calls and letters. Finally found a sympathetic ear. Got ramp open last week. Best fishing during downpours.
ShadHarris | Gap area | Tuesday May 12th 8:13 am
Hey Rob nice catch -I would consider 10 shad an hour outstanding fishing for this season. Is the Dingman's ramp open now or are you fishing from shore? Last night from shore my buddy went 10 of 16 in 3.5 hours and I went 9 of 15 in 3 hours. 4 shad hookups an hour is a lot of casting with little result - so mainly "slow" but the fight is worth the wait. The fish are still so fresh as the cold water is keeping them that way. I am finding that with the shore sessions, when the fish are there they hit, then it's long lulls in between. Whereas 2014, 15, 16 and 17 it was often a fish every cast April & May.

Another good couple of hours on the Schuylkill for me on the way home from work today. It was windy, but with lots of quiet spells thrown in. I have no idea of how many fish, but I believe that the tally ran 4 or 5 Hickories to each White shad. I was throwing a dart with a little 1/16th oz curly tail. Since I rerigged with 10# mono instead of 6# I fished all afternoon without losing a dart until the very last fish. That one swallowed the trailer jig so I broke it off and sent him swimming. Not much company. Met a youngish guy named Edwin who caught his first shad. Good going Edwin!

Fished Sunday evening above the gap many casts only one hit, one roe. At least she fought like the dickens.
Shadfather | Easton | Monday May 11th 8:09 am
Jack, a few years ago I used to use Seagar fluorocarbon leader for between my barrel swivel and spoon. I can't tell you how many times I would pull a knot tight and the line would break. I thought maybe I had a bad spool. Other spools I bought had the same thing happen. I now use the same line I spool my reel with as the leader too. I've NEVER had that problem again and it didn't make any difference catching fish either. I'll never buy that stuff again.

FISHED EASTON SAT WITH DAVE HILL FROM 530 AM TILL 8 PM..CAUGHT 4 FISH ALL DAY..WATER TEMP WAS 49...COLD & WINDY
ShadHarris | GAP | Sunday May 10th 7:09 pm
fished from shore 12:45 to 4:30. Landed some nice quality fresh fish up to 5.1 # - went 10 of 12 hookups and several other bumps. NO action from 3 to 4:30 though. The action was building steadily as the water temps rose from 46.5 to 48.5 but then it just shut off like cold turkey. Guess the water go too warm for them! LOL . 5 roe / 5 bucks all nice fish. Highlight was a double landed, pair of bucks... Easiest fight of the day they just pulled against each other and swam right to shore.

A good afternoon's fishing in the Schuylkill yesterday afternoon. A mix of Hickories and White shad on darts. The bite dropped off as the weather crapped out. One other guy there who caught more Americans than I did and more Hickories, too.

Can anyone recommend some good shore fishing spots within an hour's drive of Philly? In the past we have tried these: • Bull's Island (it looks like that may be reopened now), • Prallsville Mills Park NJ, • under Stockton Bridge on PA side • Delaware Canal State Park in PA (Virginia Forrest Recreation Area, and upstream across from the quarry) • Washington Crossing It is tough to get into deeper water without a boat. We have a canoe, and could try that for a short drift. Would need to get a suitable anchor. Thoughts?
ShadHarris | Gap area | Friday May 8th 8:38 pm
7 of 8 tonight. One hour and 45 minutes In 42 degree air and pouring rain. . My “hot bite” for the season that’s how bad it’s been for me this season. All on double dart rig 1/4 ounce and 1/16 ounce trailer in green chartreuse. 6 of them took the larger dart which is usually other way around. Had a few break offs when hooked a roe and another Shad hit the other dart and snapped 8# floro leader.

Just talked to a guy who was hitting them off of Poxono island just out from the eagle's nest on the PA side early afternoon. There is a nice little hole there.
Joseph C. | Phoenixvlle / Princeton | Thursday May 7th 7:15 am
A few guys had some luck yesterday afternoon on the Schuylkill slinging darts. White shad and Hickories. I left as the rain came down the valley. I'm just a sissy, I guess.

Can anyone tell me the condition of the river at the Delaware Water Gap this Morning?
Pete | EASTON/PBurg | Wednesday May 6th 11:39 am
Hit the Lehigh/Del water this am for about 2.5 hours (7:30-10). Went 6/9 despite being all thumbs today. Mixed bag of roe/buck. A couple of very nice roe that took some time to get in. Mostly on smaller silver spoons with any door working. About 2 feet off the bottom in 8’ of water. Water temp 53 and air about the same. Guys bun the fish ladder getting a few-not sure I put the EASTON boat launch guys. Other boat seemed to be doing about the same.
Phil M. | Sandyston | Wednesday May 6th 11:11 am
Joseph C.: Just havin' fun with ya'. If that's what it took to catch them, I never argue with success.
Joseph C. | Phoenixvlle / Princeton | Wednesday May 6th 8:24 am
What do prospects look like for fishing from the shore in Easton? I haven't been there yet this year and it's one of my favorite fishing spots. I think the water level needs to come down a bit based on what the river looks like when I'm crossing it at Scudders Falls on my way to work every morning.
Joseph C. | Phoenixvlle / Princeton | Wednesday May 6th 8:20 am
Yes, that rig was super heavy. However, because both the current was running so strong and the wind was blowing down river so hard that anything lighter just was lifted out of the water and it was impossible to maintain contact with the darts. I was a little embarrassed to use it. Hooking a lot of fish helped me get over it.
RUSTY BALLS | | Wednesday May 6th 6:49 am
FISHED EASTON YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WITH STEVE..CAUGHT 16 FOR ABOUT THREE HOURS FISHING..MOST ON PLUGS..ONLY 2 ON RIGGERS
Kyle | Pen Argyl | Wednesday May 6th 5:15 am
Fished 4-7 in harmony, water 52 degrees , debris tolerable, landed 7 lost 2, all on spoons on downriggers close to shore. Mix of boys@girls,
Phil M. | Sandyston | Tuesday May 5th 11:38 pm
Joseph C.: Like Randy mentioned, that was some heavy rig you were throwing. Were you hooking them or hitting them over the head with it ? Me and my buddy hit them pretty well, wading way above Port Jervis today. Landed 20 and many were lost. Chartreuse darts worked much better than others when the sun went below the horizon. Caught 8 smallies as a bonus. All fish were high-spirited and tenacious. Fished downstream of an incoming stream, so water clarity and debris were not a problem. Thursday looks good, too.
Duff | | Tuesday May 5th 8:24 pm
Fished below Frenchtown with excellent conditions - Huh ??? Not a touch !
Randy | | Tuesday May 5th 12:50 pm
The forecast for rain this week has been changing for this week hopefully it stays under .75" for the entire week. I'll give it a try later this week. Joseph C. you were slinging some heavy weights. Nice to see you are catching them and it is tough to leave when the fishing is good even tho the weather is bad. Sometimes it seems to go hand and hand.
Phil M. | Sandyston | Tuesday May 5th 11:06 am
All 3 reservoirs over the spillway with Cannonsville being the main offender. Much slower decent than I anticipated. Temperature ok.
Joseph C. | Phoenixville / Princeton | Monday May 4th 6:51 pm
I stopped by the Schuylkill on my way home this afternoon. Only one other guy there when arrived, and he had only arrived in front of me and was fishing for stripers. It was tough conditions with the water running fast with residual rain flow and the wind picking up the whole time I was there. I was thrilled with my first American hook up, which I had on long enough to see. I ended up with 8 or 10 Americans and another 10 Hickories. The wind did terrible things to my casts per dart average. I ended up leaving at least half a dozen darts in fish, trees and who knows where. One fish, I'm guessing a cat, fought like hell and then wedged itself under a rock. 2 good sized Americans were landed with the hook in their backs. Those fought really hard! It got so windy that I couldn't fish any more. I'd lost all my heavy darts and it wasn't worth it without them. When I had the ideal setup, a half ounce in front and 1/4 oz behind, both white with red heads, I was hitting fish every 2 or 3 casts. Not a bad couple hours.
Joseph C. | Phoenixvlle / Princeton | Monday May 4th 1:17 pm
Dennis, I'm not there yet. It's still wishful at this point.
Dennis J Scholl | Hellertown | Monday May 4th 9:59 am
Joseph C. you live a charmed life. I'd take the bluefish with poppers.
Joseph C. | Phoenixville / Princeton | Sunday May 3rd 6:26 pm
I gave it a try at the Schuylkill for 2 hours this afternoon. Flow rate was down to around 7500cfs, but with the tide flowing in its lower half my preferred fishing areas weren't any use. Also, the water was pretty mucky. I did catch a couple good sized Hickories, so it wasn't a total bust. I think tomorrow will be a great day to try it if the wind's not wrong. ...but now the beach is available, maybe, and I will be stretched in two directions. Bluefish in the shallows chasing poppers...
Phil M. | Sandyston | Sunday May 3rd 11:14 am
River coming down rapidly, about 22 inches per day. Depending on the level you like to fish it at, it will be ready sooner than it first appeared. I like wading when it's 3 feet over summertime level. Do your chores and get your equipment ready, you'll be fishing sooner than you think.
Riverwolf | Coopersburg | Saturday May 2nd 9:40 pm
SHAD HOTLINE......River crested at Reigelsville at 14.5 ft. River temp 52....Stay away from river until Wednesday or Thursday....Stay safe.....

More immediate response might be achieved by posting requests to open the fishing parking on the Wothington Facebook page. Ask politely. Maybe offer to report any unauthorized campers.
