kevin | Yardley PA | Wednesday April 25th 8:51 pm
It was lit at Yardley fom 10 am to 4pm today. Several triples and doubles throughout the day. Lots of big roes up to 6lbs in the mix. Fished spoons on plug rig and flat lines in 6 ft of water. Water temp was 52 in the am, rose to 53.8 by 4pm. Overcast and drizzle most of the day, did not hamper the bite. Water is in great shape but may rise due to rains up north. Lost count at 50 fish today. Will be back out next week. Best of luck to all in the tournament....plenty of fish headed North.....Catch & release to preserve the spawn. See you on the river....Kevin

FISH WHISPERER, Thanks for the report on the Water Gap,maybe I'll give it a few more days to warm up.
Tom | Trenton | Tuesday April 24th 2:34 pm
Fished in Trenton between 7:00 to 8:30 am and caught 3 t0 4#. Fishing was very difficult, as the water rose 4.5 feet in that 1.5h. I used 1" flutter spoons at first... nothing. Switched to 3/4" and caught the three fish. Only saw one other fish caught under those tough conditions. Afterthought, I should have used some jigs...much less water resistance in that tidal surge.

Nothing like a "huge push" fishing from the shore below Lambertville this morning, but it was my best morning there yet this year with 7 fish in a little more than 2 hours. Only 1 roe, the rest very small bucks. Double dart rig with fish hitting both larger and smaller dart. One of the regulars there was in on the mayhem fishing from a boat by the Trenton railway bridge yesterday. He's fished a long time and had never seen the like of it in numbers of fish and average size.
FISH WHISPERER | WATER GAP | Tuesday April 24th 12:08 pm

Shadfather | Easton | Tuesday April 24th 7:33 am
Fished about 4 hours yesterday afternoon fishing some different spots other than the usual highly productive spot. Caught 10 along with my largest of the season so far at 24 inches and 5 pounds 5 ounces. Wanted to see how close my weight guess was. It was pretty close. Also found where not to fish too.

Any reports from the Water Gap area?
onemoreshad | Hatfield | Monday April 23rd 8:52 pm
I can confirm the HUGE PUSH. We fished lower river today. Two of us in boat and could not even run more than 3 rods together. Put 100 in boat in 6 hours and missed or lost another 25-35. Many boats with 15-20 fish per hour. Crazy. At one time I saw a dozen boats and everyone had fish on. Many triples when we had a 3rd rod out. COMPLETE MAYHEM. Glad we where part of it!! Tight lines!! Shawn

Fished the Matamoras area tonight. I managed one shad. I saw about 15 caught among 10 anglers from 4-6pm. I had to leave, but hopefully they have some extra luck.
RPS | Greeley | Monday April 23rd 6:53 pm

Tom | Trenton | Monday April 23rd 5:40 pm
Fished April 23 in Trenton from 10:30am to 1:00pm, and landed 10 fish to 4# on flutter spoons. I did lose an abnormal 6-8 shad.I checked my hook a bunch of times and everything was okay. They must have been just barely getting hooked. The guy next to me did land a bonafide 6# fish, and landed it without a net. There were other fishermen with 5# fish as well. It looks like the run is still on in Trenton.

RB, I saw you both, then. Earlier Dollbaby was fishing the main river and they left about 4:00. Later I saw you move over the the Lehigh channel, I think. I was one of the 2 guys wading on the north side from about 3:15 til 5:15, casting up to the white water under the dam. Those guys below the fish ladder looked like they were banging elbows with each other and were up way over their waists in that current. It looked like no fun to me! Cheers! Joseph

I got lost heading home to Phoenixville from upper Lehigh County Sunday afternoon and found myself in Easton. Fished from 3:00 to about 6:00 and went 4 for 6, the 4 being beautiful roes. One of these days I'll encounter one of these great pods. Meanwhile, I enjoyed a magnificent afternoon in the sunshine. Mr. Balls, was that your blue boat flying the flag? WG, I hope to run into you again one of these days.

Had a few hours to kill and as much as I wanted to head south and get into hot action I wanted to stubbornly wanted to finally break ice on my first shad anorth of Water Gap so I did just that as I scratched out two on two consecutive casts in the middle of a 90 minute session. This is usually my favorite weekend to load up on Shad up here but instead it is the latest I had to wait to land my first shad in Northern waters. I got 44 degrees on my stream thermometer before I stepped on it and broke the glass.

Riverwolf, Nice to make your acquaintance at the launch ramp today. Anytime you see me on the river, cruise on by to shoot the breeze and we'll trade some realtime intel for the day. :-) Here's a pic of a 4+ pounder I put in the net today along with good numbers of other decent roe for both Mike & myself. This one was unusual as it came it on the bottom dart where the top loop had been broken by another hooked fish. May have set a personal record for doubles today. What made this one special was the fact that Mike & I actually saw it break the loop on a jump that had it clear the water by at least a foot no more than 10 feet from the port side of the boat!
Tkoz | Harmony | Sunday April 22nd 9:05 pm
Fished from 515 to 645pm. Went 2 for 2. One on a yellow and red dart and one on a red and white spoon. Saw one boat that caught 1 while I was there. The bug hatch was insane

TOM | Trenton | Sunday April 22nd 1:49 pm
Fished in Trenton from 10am to 1pm at near high tide to mid tide. A lot of action, I caught 24 shad and lost about 10 or so . The fish were super active...lots of jumping. Mostly everyone was catching fish. I was using a one-half ounce weight, and flutter spoons. Tomorrow should be good as well.

Started at 530 am with my son Will Gordon on the Delaware River south of Easton. Picked a few in a couple hours and decided to head a few miles south. We found the motherload, and in 5 hours we landed over 60 combined and well over 100 hooked, casting double dart rigs from shore..... the water temp was 46, and we missed MANY hits too....very large concentration of Shad heading north....most roe’s over 4 pounds and maybe 5-6 around 5 pounds. Lots of big runs and jumps today.

Lamar: look a t the annal port early running fe. ...hope this helps ya. males will have a yellowish color and as the season progress es the annal port will be protruding out, the buck: if you run your tight fingers along the bottom of the fish and toward the annal port ,a white milky substance will come out
Lamar | Easton | Friday April 20th 9:38 pm
How do you tell the difference between a male and female shad?????
| | Friday April 20th 12:12 pm
Fos use those of you that need to stay at it. as the lower reports of fish at their feet, thats where they will be .... the higher the water ,the closer to shore they will be, they stay out of the heavy currents to save energy. yea sometimes only 3 to 5 ft off shore. dark water use those Org/Blk.--Pk/Blk colors.be careful in the currents and slippery bottoms, use that walking stick.. stay safe.

Please bring the kids to this informative event. There will also be birds of prey, including eagles, hawks, etc from the local Raptor center as well. Hope to have a good turnout. Check the Delaware River National Park website for details on Facebook. Tight lines.,.Kevin
Kevin | Yardley | Thursday April 19th 9:57 pm
Tom, This happens when the river temps drop. A gew degrees makes a difference. It shuts down the action and the bite. Today temps are down to 43 Was 51 a few days before. Next week warmer weather should improve the bite. Tight lines. Kevin
Tom C | Hunterdon County | Thursday April 19th 5:19 pm
Fished today 1000-1400 and found a nice pocket full of fish at my feet most of the day. Pool was loaded up with fish however I only managed to hook (and land) one. Fish were so thick at times that they would end up snagged by mistake and thankfully come off immediately. I am a novice to shad fishing but is this normal? I threw everything in the box at them-shad darts of all sizes and colors, multiple flutter spoons, even went with panfish grubs, a herring spoon, and a sabiki rig at one point because I was running out of ideas and not catching fish. Is this normal to see fish stacked up like this that don't bite or do I still have some learning to do?

Fished New Hope Wednesday morning 6:45-10:30, went 5 for 9 with 2 big roe in the mix (1 hickory). Took 1.5 hr to get number 1. Once I figured out they were stacked 8ft from where I stood, not the 12-15 I was fishing, it got easier but still very slow compared to March '17 in similar conditions; I think the water temp is the difference this yr.
