Here's an oddity. Was fishing with waders yesterday (Good Friday) in Tusten, NY. Shad were the farthest thing from my mind, being 25 miles upstream of Port Jervis. I was catching a few smallies and chubs when I threw out my 1/8th ounce silver Kastmaster, let it sink, made 2 cranks of the handle and an average-size buck shad hit the damn thing. I landed him in normal fashion. Continued to fish for another hour and a half, but no more shad. Maybe the previous high water spread-out the leaders of the run, as the "edge" of the current becomes vague at that time and visibility was surely poor. A pleasant surprise, though.

I am looking for info from anyone who can advise me of opportunities to fish in Belvidere by the bridge at Water St. It looks like a good spot. Is there anywhere to park and are there any holes where the bite may be consistent. Any reply would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Frank

We waded rieglesville pa 9am-1pm. Hooked one and lost it. Few hits here and there. Waded Easton, mouth of the Lehigh, 2-7:30. Two of us caught over 30. A lot of the other guys on shore said Thursday night was WAY better. For my first trip out on the Delaware for shad ever it was a blast. Compared to fishing shad in Md the numbers were way lower but the size of the fish was way larger. I'll be back.....

Iron shad, I was watching you guys trying to anchor last night. Not sure what kind of anchor you were using but you need to allow for more line to scope out in front of the boat before you try to catch. I see to many guys drop there anchor and let out 12 feet of line and try to catch. In your boat you should allow at least 50 feet of line out in front of your boat before you expect to anchor. I'd have my life jackets on too while you're moving around.

Just waiters, but a couple of minutes from the creek it dumps into the Christiana river and I do really go with the stripers there most of the year. If you have a boat you could do some really good striper fishing. I had a 20 ft boat and boat does mean bust out another thousand. I don't have a boat right now. Here is a striper I got the last day of February . I was fishing the Christiana river off a bridge just a couple minutes from my home.

Hi highly. I lived in frackville for 26 years . I moved to Elsmere Delaware 12 years ago. I never fished the Delaware river for shad yet. I have 3 different creeks within 5 minutes of my home were I shad fish . I get American and hickory shad weighing up to 4 pounds. I use a ultra light rod with 2 to 4 pound test and small shad darts and spoons and it's the greatest. I have work at 8am but I will be heading out about 5 am for my first day out this year. I haven't heard or been able to find out if there up in Christiana river or white clay creek yet but I have a good feeling they are. The creek is loaded with them beyond belief the creek isn't huge it's on the smaller side but the shad come up in in schools of a hundred or more. My favorite hole is about 30 ft wide and about 70 to 100 ft long and sometimes there is that many shad that's all you can see is the shad and can only see the bottom of the creek right along the shore. Barley anyone goes shad fishing there usually don't see anyone once in a while you might see another guy or two shad fishing there. The strippers follow the shad up in the creek and at night time you can watch 30 inch strippers and bigger eating shad right in front of you. It's also as some to use a medium action pole with 10 pound test and try to play one of those strippers and land it. You really have to set your drag light and have patience cause the fight can last 20 minutes or more. If you love shad fishing it's a spot you must try. If you would be interested just let me know . It's right out side of Wilmington and close to Delaware park race track . I would love to go out shad fishing with another serious die hard who loves shad fishing and appreciates and is grateful we have theses wonder fish come in or creeks and rivers to spawn in the spring time and go all the way back out to the Atlantic ocean. It's the most amazing and wonder thing that happens every spring . When they go back out to the ocean I start counting down the days and thinking about next year's season. Good lunch if you would like to come and try shad fishing here email me at charlesjk3179@gmail.com

Sunday April 2nd 9:30 pm
Well, on Woo I said "Film at 11:00". Looks like it is gonna be 9:15 PM, but close enough. ;-) My buddy Dennis's suggested hole panned out! 3 of us waded starting at dawn. Dave left at 1400 hours. I'd had enough at 17:30 hours and Dennis .... well, he may still be there. Seriously, he may have stayed 'til dusk, which isn't unusual for him. Anyway, we didn't do anything until 0830 hours when Dennis nailed the first fish and it was game on until about an hour before I left. Until then we were constantly landing, short & long distance releasing, losing fish in the bushes, on/off-ing & scaling fish. I don't think more than 15 minutes went by an any time until 1630 hours without some sort of action. I had checked the spot out yesterday afternoon and I figured we'd catch a few fish, but I was surprised at how thick the fish were. Dave managed 3 for 5, I went 8 for 14 and Dennis. Well, I stopped counting at double digits. Oh yeah, some big roes landed. Dennis had 2 real nice ones (5 & 5.5 pounds) and a bunch of smaller roe. I did one that I think would have made 4# and another that might have pushed 4# and at least 2 smaller roe. Dennis also snagged 3 carp (we weighed the largest and it went 12# 8 oz and I managed 2 carp AND I was the quill back hero for the day with 1! One heck of a day! I'm thinkiin' the main run has arrived. :-)

Mild air and heavy rain will accompany a couple storm systems this week across the Northeast as a springlike weather pattern sets up.
While the week will initially start off dry, a quick-moving low pressure system from the Southern Plains will track into the mid-Atlantic and Northeast Monday night through Tuesday.
“This will be another soaking rain for many of the big cities along the Interstate 95 corridor,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rossio said.
The heaviest rain will likely come early Tuesday morning. This will impact the morning commute Tuesday.
Low clouds and rain will cause poor visibility for motorists. Those planning on traveling should anticipate slow travel and delays on the ground and in the air.
northeast heavy rain tuesday 4/4
Widespread rainfall totals across the Northeast will likely range between 0.50 of an inch to 1 inch. However, with the storm tapping into moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, some places will see more.
“Some isolated locations, especially along Interstate 95, will see 1 to 2 inches of rain Monday night through Tuesday which can lead to minor street flooding,” Rossio said.
Following a chilly Friday and Saturday, milder air will accompany the storm with temperatures rising back into the 50s and 60s for most with 70s farther south into the mid-Atlantic.
“This will be a milder storm compared to the one from Friday with more rain expected across southern and central New England,” Rossio said.
Any lingering snow on the ground will melt and could contribute to flooding or ponding of water in yards or on roadways.

Enough cold air will remain across northern New Hampshire and Maine for some snow Tuesday.
The storm will quickly clear out Tuesday night and high pressure will temporarily build in Wednesday as the roller-coaster spring pattern continues. Sunshine and mild air will likely make it the nicest day of the week. However, another storm will be looming on the horizon.
“Another more robust storm system will arrive towards the end of the week and could deliver another round of heavy rainfall and potentially gusty winds,” Rossio said.
The storm will likely bring cooler air with it for Thursday and Friday but just how cool it gets will depend on the track and strength of the storm system.

Weofish, I think you've about got it right. The early run fish were thick for about a week to 10 days from late Feb. into early March which has historically been the case; albeit, most years you can't get at 'em due to weather & river conditions and/or guys simply not willing to take the punishment to catch. I hit 'em good 4 trips out of 5. I've seen this lull between the early fish & the main run every year for decades. Obviously, there are a few small pods in between, but you've got to be very lucky to be in the right place at the right time to hit 'em. I'm starting see some evidence of forsythia blooms. Maybe another week and the main run will hit us in the lower river big time.

Frank, I have been having the same problem as most of these reports. I think there are some in the river, but there so far and few in between. But I do think things will get better after this week. As the temp starts to rise so will the reports of the shiny silver slabs. For now try to keep a tight line. I fished Trenton from 11 am till 2:30pm on Saturday, I pulled the boat and launch from Yardley ramp around 3pm. I was looking for ya, but I must have just missed you.

Wading Trip #11 for the season .... In the southern Delaware, got in 42.1 degree water at 1315 hours. Wind was lower than predicted. Mostly calm to 5 knots, occasionally breezing up to 8. Conditions were pretty much ideal for the spot with the exception that the fish were not there again. Gave it up at 1630. Spent 2 hours & 45 mins of the 3 hour & 15 mins I was there in the water. No bumps, missed hits, etc. Am now 4 for 11 on trips. Of course, all in early fish. Should have listened to my own advice and waited for the lull to end around 4/1, but I didn't have anything better to do with my life today. <sigh/smile> Chiggy, from what I am seeing & hearing through the grapevine a long ways south of Smithfield. Odds are you can at least double that 4 or 5 day expectation.
