Great to see it busted wide open, and as usual - Easton area delivers the big catches first. I plan on fishing from shore N of gap tomorrow morning and night in between working from home, then head to Easton area with boat at some point Saturday with hopes to find a decent slot to anchor up. Good luck all - be safe!
Iron shad | Johnstown pa | Wednesday April 12th 9:13 pm
We fished along side Eric from the bi-state tourney and another boat this evening at the Lehigh confluence for about 3 hours we landed 50 shad out of around 75. Eric caught 80 and the other boat wAs catching steady all night as well. Plenty of fat roe in the mix and the action was non stop for the entire 3 hours. Pumped for the tournament next week!!!!

Hit it for 3 1/2 hrs this morning. Good bite 24 for 29. 3 sets of doubles. Half dozen were roe. Bonus rainbow trout. Hot color was white/red. Water 50.64. Less debris coming down everyday. Less surface activity this morning but there still was some.
Iron shad | Johnstown pa | Wednesday April 12th 10:36 am
Shad father thanks for the tip. Anchor man was still a little rusty from last season lol. We do always have life jackets on board should of had them on last night.
Shadfather | Easton | Wednesday April 12th 7:36 am
Iron shad, I was watching you guys trying to anchor last night. Not sure what kind of anchor you were using but you need to allow for more line to scope out in front of the boat before you try to catch. I see to many guys drop there anchor and let out 12 feet of line and try to catch. In your boat you should allow at least 50 feet of line out in front of your boat before you expect to anchor. I'd have my life jackets on too while you're moving around.
Powerfisher | | Tuesday April 11th 9:44 pm
Fished 4 hrs in the afternoon today. 11 for 15. Chartreuse was the hot color in fact the only color they took. Plenty of shad surfacing in eddys along the bank. Also caught a bonus smallmouth. Water temp topped out at 50.4 North of Lambertville.
Iron shad | Johnstown pa | Tuesday April 11th 9:03 pm

https://www.facebook.com/pg/Delaware.Riverkeeper.Network/videos/?ref=page_internal I went to the DRBC dissolved oxygen meeting. I am the one speaking as 54:30. I hope someone convinced them to abandon their analysis paralysis approach to clean oxygen rich water in the Delaware!

I work 7am until 5pm every day except Sunday and Monday they are my days off. The creek I shad fish in runs 20 ft behind the shop I work in. So I plan on taking my rod and going to work a hour early and do a little fishing before work in the morning. Just let me know what's up then when you talk to your fishing buddy. Talk to you later.
Charlie | Elsmere Delaware | Thursday April 6th 12:53 am
Just waiters, but a couple of minutes from the creek it dumps into the Christiana river and I do really go with the stripers there most of the year. If you have a boat you could do some really good striper fishing. I had a 20 ft boat and boat does mean bust out another thousand. I don't have a boat right now. Here is a striper I got the last day of February . I was fishing the Christiana river off a bridge just a couple minutes from my home.
| | Wednesday April 5th 11:52 am
Delaware basin is now shown to be snow free. Only (LOL) rain runoff and reservoir releases to concern us now.
Chiggy | Frackville | Wednesday April 5th 7:16 am
Charlie, Let me talk with my fishing buddy, we will more than likely try to get down there, I'll bring my spay rod and maybe do battle with a stripper, I have work this morning at 10:30. I will E-mail you sometime today or tomorrow.Do we need a boat or just waders.

Charlie | Elsmere Delaware | Wednesday April 5th 1:51 am
Hi highly. I lived in frackville for 26 years . I moved to Elsmere Delaware 12 years ago. I never fished the Delaware river for shad yet. I have 3 different creeks within 5 minutes of my home were I shad fish . I get American and hickory shad weighing up to 4 pounds. I use a ultra light rod with 2 to 4 pound test and small shad darts and spoons and it's the greatest. I have work at 8am but I will be heading out about 5 am for my first day out this year. I haven't heard or been able to find out if there up in Christiana river or white clay creek yet but I have a good feeling they are. The creek is loaded with them beyond belief the creek isn't huge it's on the smaller side but the shad come up in in schools of a hundred or more. My favorite hole is about 30 ft wide and about 70 to 100 ft long and sometimes there is that many shad that's all you can see is the shad and can only see the bottom of the creek right along the shore. Barley anyone goes shad fishing there usually don't see anyone once in a while you might see another guy or two shad fishing there. The strippers follow the shad up in the creek and at night time you can watch 30 inch strippers and bigger eating shad right in front of you. It's also as some to use a medium action pole with 10 pound test and try to play one of those strippers and land it. You really have to set your drag light and have patience cause the fight can last 20 minutes or more. If you love shad fishing it's a spot you must try. If you would be interested just let me know . It's right out side of Wilmington and close to Delaware park race track . I would love to go out shad fishing with another serious die hard who loves shad fishing and appreciates and is grateful we have theses wonder fish come in or creeks and rivers to spawn in the spring time and go all the way back out to the Atlantic ocean. It's the most amazing and wonder thing that happens every spring . When they go back out to the ocean I start counting down the days and thinking about next year's season. Good lunch if you would like to come and try shad fishing here email me at charlesjk3179@gmail.com

Duff, an 8+ lb qill is up in braggin' territory. You should have gotten a picture!
Duff | | Monday April 3rd 10:12 pm
Turns out while I went south yesterday, Alex Dennis and Dave were in one of my favorite holes. I was there today but they be gone. All the quillbacks you wanted though. Actually had my PB quill about 8+lbs. Ain't that a thrill.
DUFF | | Sunday April 2nd 10:08 pm
Busy with the boat today but took a ride about 4:30 to a spot I've never fished . Loads of big fish darting on the surface but not biting. Ended up snagging 3 big roe in a couple hours.
Capt. Alex Craig | Hatteras, NC & Green Lane, PA | Sunday April 2nd 9:30 pm
Well, on Woo I said "Film at 11:00". Looks like it is gonna be 9:15 PM, but close enough. ;-) My buddy Dennis's suggested hole panned out! 3 of us waded starting at dawn. Dave left at 1400 hours. I'd had enough at 17:30 hours and Dennis .... well, he may still be there. Seriously, he may have stayed 'til dusk, which isn't unusual for him. Anyway, we didn't do anything until 0830 hours when Dennis nailed the first fish and it was game on until about an hour before I left. Until then we were constantly landing, short & long distance releasing, losing fish in the bushes, on/off-ing & scaling fish. I don't think more than 15 minutes went by an any time until 1630 hours without some sort of action. I had checked the spot out yesterday afternoon and I figured we'd catch a few fish, but I was surprised at how thick the fish were. Dave managed 3 for 5, I went 8 for 14 and Dennis. Well, I stopped counting at double digits. Oh yeah, some big roes landed. Dennis had 2 real nice ones (5 & 5.5 pounds) and a bunch of smaller roe. I did one that I think would have made 4# and another that might have pushed 4# and at least 2 smaller roe. Dennis also snagged 3 carp (we weighed the largest and it went 12# 8 oz and I managed 2 carp AND I was the quill back hero for the day with 1! One heck of a day! I'm thinkiin' the main run has arrived. :-)

April 01, 2017, 5:05:51 PM EDT Mild air and heavy rain will accompany a couple storm systems this week across the Northeast as a springlike weather pattern sets up. While the week will initially start off dry, a quick-moving low pressure system from the Southern Plains will track into the mid-Atlantic and Northeast Monday night through Tuesday. “This will be another soaking rain for many of the big cities along the Interstate 95 corridor,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rossio said. The heaviest rain will likely come early Tuesday morning. This will impact the morning commute Tuesday. Low clouds and rain will cause poor visibility for motorists. Those planning on traveling should anticipate slow travel and delays on the ground and in the air. northeast heavy rain tuesday 4/4 Widespread rainfall totals across the Northeast will likely range between 0.50 of an inch to 1 inch. However, with the storm tapping into moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, some places will see more. “Some isolated locations, especially along Interstate 95, will see 1 to 2 inches of rain Monday night through Tuesday which can lead to minor street flooding,” Rossio said. Following a chilly Friday and Saturday, milder air will accompany the storm with temperatures rising back into the 50s and 60s for most with 70s farther south into the mid-Atlantic. “This will be a milder storm compared to the one from Friday with more rain expected across southern and central New England,” Rossio said. Any lingering snow on the ground will melt and could contribute to flooding or ponding of water in yards or on roadways. RELATED: Northeast Interactive Radar Spring cleaning tips for your vehicle 5 hacks to keep outdoor allergy symptoms at bay this spring Enough cold air will remain across northern New Hampshire and Maine for some snow Tuesday. The storm will quickly clear out Tuesday night and high pressure will temporarily build in Wednesday as the roller-coaster spring pattern continues. Sunshine and mild air will likely make it the nicest day of the week. However, another storm will be looming on the horizon. “Another more robust storm system will arrive towards the end of the week and could deliver another round of heavy rainfall and potentially gusty winds,” Rossio said. The storm will likely bring cooler air with it for Thursday and Friday but just how cool it gets will depend on the track and strength of the storm system.

Weofish, I think you've about got it right. The early run fish were thick for about a week to 10 days from late Feb. into early March which has historically been the case; albeit, most years you can't get at 'em due to weather & river conditions and/or guys simply not willing to take the punishment to catch. I hit 'em good 4 trips out of 5. I've seen this lull between the early fish & the main run every year for decades. Obviously, there are a few small pods in between, but you've got to be very lucky to be in the right place at the right time to hit 'em. I'm starting see some evidence of forsythia blooms. Maybe another week and the main run will hit us in the lower river big time.
weofish | | Tuesday March 28th 9:51 pm
Frank, I have been having the same problem as most of these reports. I think there are some in the river, but there so far and few in between. But I do think things will get better after this week. As the temp starts to rise so will the reports of the shiny silver slabs. For now try to keep a tight line. I fished Trenton from 11 am till 2:30pm on Saturday, I pulled the boat and launch from Yardley ramp around 3pm. I was looking for ya, but I must have just missed you.
fishermanfrank | Upper Southampton,PA | Monday March 27th 9:19 am
Went out Saturday morning about 7:30at Yardley 4 other trailers in parking lot .My Buddy Rick & his Nephew were at one spot then headed up North anchored up fished for 2 1/2 hrs there, no hits then moved by wing dam stayed there 1 1/2 hrs. no hits there also. went to W C bridge 2 boats up there anchored up & nothing no sign of the silvery swimmers lost anchor ,shackle must of came undone .{have to call Rusty Balls to get a new one}. Also discovered that the angles supporting my Transom are cracking have to make some calls to get them welded .I guess the extra weight of the 4 stroke weaken them . WEOFISH How did U do over the weekend.I'll try to get out later tomorrow. SeeU on the Water.
Chiggy | Frackville | Monday March 27th 4:16 am
Alex, mom didn't raise any fools, I won't hit Smithfield until the 24 of April, that's about the time you can go 65 out of 100 or better. I have been going around that date for the last 10 years and always had good success.
Capt. Alex Craig | Hatteras, NC & Green Lane, PA | Sunday March 26th 6:48 pm
Wading Trip #11 for the season .... In the southern Delaware, got in 42.1 degree water at 1315 hours. Wind was lower than predicted. Mostly calm to 5 knots, occasionally breezing up to 8. Conditions were pretty much ideal for the spot with the exception that the fish were not there again. Gave it up at 1630. Spent 2 hours & 45 mins of the 3 hour & 15 mins I was there in the water. No bumps, missed hits, etc. Am now 4 for 11 on trips. Of course, all in early fish. Should have listened to my own advice and waited for the lull to end around 4/1, but I didn't have anything better to do with my life today. <sigh/smile> Chiggy, from what I am seeing & hearing through the grapevine a long ways south of Smithfield. Odds are you can at least double that 4 or 5 day expectation.

Chiggy | Frackville | Saturday March 25th 8:45 pm
Alex, I fish an area that has a lot of small currents and eddies below a riffle, it allows me to keep the dart in the strike zone for a longer period of time. I also fish a pool that is 30 ft deep thus my idea for just dropping the dart down near the bottom and leave it hang there. I know both spots will work it just depends on where I have best success. My centerpin has a drag on it so I can just hold the dart in one spot if need be. Sounds like in about 4 or 5 days things should be much better.
Capt. Alex Craig | Hatteras, NC & Green Lane, PA | Saturday March 25th 3:23 pm
And wait for it ..... yet another skunking today. Fished from dawn (0700 hours) 'til about 1230 hours in 41 degree water. A couple of my buddies and myself managed 1 sucker each and that's it! Perhaps in a few more days. Chiggy, I would think you would do best in 5 - 6 feet of water at the top of a pool just below the rapids in a seam or at least just inside a current edge in the pool. My two cents. ;-)
bruce | trenton | Saturday March 25th 1:43 pm
If the power station is not running, not warm water flows to fish happy.
PapiChulo | Trenton | Saturday March 25th 1:02 pm
Fished 4 hours, 8am - 12pm in Trenton by the Amtrak bridge and 0 bumps or bites. Water was cold, 41.2°.
Chiggy | Frackville | Saturday March 25th 12:42 am
Alex, I am going to fish the traditional way, float that supports 15 to 20 grams , 8lb main line, 4lb tippet and 1/16 ounce darts and let it drift through some pools and in larger pools set the depth for 25 to 30 ft and just let it hang there and see what happens, also I will give the dart a little shot of WD-40
weofish | | Friday March 24th 9:39 pm
Well I didn’t go out of Trenton like I had plan, my fishing buddy Chuck had some house work to do, and canceled. So I decided to go out at Lambertville instead. There were no other boats out and only one shore fishermen, fishing from the wing dam. The fish were not there and I didn’t mark any on the screen. Fished from 3pm till 6:30pm nothing. My Berkley Lightning Rods were not putting any fish on board my vessel, I was so hoping they were going to be there. Because I did bring my salmon rod. Alex no bobber, just a Big John Diver with a flutter spoon, buddy. Going back at it tomorrow Frank hope to see you out there.
fishermanfrank | Upper Southampton,PA | Friday March 24th 8:25 pm
yesterday at Yardley I didn't get any hookups but it was nice being on the water.was only there from 13:00 TO 15:30 water temp was42.8 The wind died down. @my buddies were up there today from 09:00 t0 !5:00 they didn't get any hits . How did U make out today weofish ? Going to try early tomorrow.
Capt. Alex Craig | Hatteras, NC & Green Lane, PA | Friday March 24th 6:11 pm
Chiggy, while I'm waiting for Weofish to post a report. I'm curious. Are you going to fish that Centerpin rig in a traditional manner using a bobber & let it float free spool down stream with a wet fly or whatever on it. Or do you have something else in mind?
weofish | | Friday March 24th 9:36 am
LOL Alex, Okay for everyone who don't understand, "SACRILEGE" Meaning : Violation or misuse of what is regarded as sacred. You are to funny my fishing brother. I'm heading out this afternoon, I'll let you know how I make out.

weofish | | Thursday March 23rd 7:13 pm
Hi Frank, it’s been awhile since I last seen you out there, I hope all is well with you, and hope to see you on the water soon. I’m not going out today, however I will be on the water at Trenton tomorrow afternoon around 3pm till dusk. Then on Saturday morning I’m going to put in at Lambertville access. Hey Alex I did have the opportunity to wrestle in some salmon on a Cortland GRF1000XP 9’ for line 8/9. I modified the handle with an extension to fit a spinning reel. I use this rod specifically for salmon fishing. I should take it along with me this weekend. Sorry if this makes your stomach sour. : / But you are right on the fight, well at least with the salmon. So I think you have convinced me to use it on the Shad. Only I’ll be sticking to my spinning reel. : )
