PC | Beach Lake | Wednesday April 14th 11:04 am
Fished Narrowsburg last night PA boat launch. Fished about an hour around 7:00. Hooked up with two, landed one nice roe.
RPS | Greeley | Tuesday April 13th 8:21 pm
Fished Zane Grey 4 to 5:30 tonight from shore water temp. 53 deg. foul hooked one. A lot of slime in the water it stuck to the darts really bad every cast. I think that's why I didn't get any bites the darts were getting covered before you could really fish them.
whitetail | Shohola | Tuesday April 13th 7:29 pm
8 for 9 tonight couple big roe in mix. Not consistent, but not bad for 2.5 hours. better than last week.
charlie 1st | yardly to frenchtown | Tuesday April 13th 5:25 pm
we got about a dozen this morning in about 2 hrs or so, flat lines with splitshot and f spoons as well as crankbait rigs worked for a mixed bag of roe and buck. grand total so far about 60 fish in 5 trips...fish on!! Keep it Reel!!!
Phil M. | Sandyston | Tuesday April 13th 4:07 pm
Rob, had occasion to drive by Dingmans today and the parking lot/boat launch area is still closed. I got the same information from the toll collectors as Riverwolf: April 15th, which is a day that rain is called for. Sometimes it's hard to hit the right combo.
Riverwolf | Coopersburg | Tuesday April 13th 8:03 am
I talked with someone from the nps and they said Dingmans was opening 4/15......Some fish to be had up there....River temp 50.....
Robert Wright | Montague | Monday April 12th 10:05 pm
Is dingmans open yet? I seen on Facebook that someone did well there yesterday.
Riverwolf | Coopersburg | Monday April 12th 9:26 pm
River stage 6.1.....water temp 54.....Fishing better in lower river Bucks county and south....small pods moving....main run is yet to come....get out there and catch em up.....
Charles mcquaid | Bushkill | Monday April 12th 7:57 pm
Caught 4 today. Had a few more bumps. They are here just not real active just yet.
TeamToothy | Easton | Monday April 12th 6:31 pm
Joseph C., it’s been tougher by the day with the water levels dropping so fast. Boat guys are doing well but until we get some good rain again I’m working the Martin’s creek area from shore for now. Fish are there, but reaching the channel became too difficult.
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Monday April 12th 8:53 am
How's shore fishing at Easton lately?
| Phoenixville | Monday April 12th 7:23 am
I was able to do my Sunday evening trip to the Schuylkill yesterday. I thought that I'd hit just about perfect conditions - not too much water, no turbidity, the tide was at its peak, but just about to start running. I got a hit on my 3rd cast and landed a fat roe Hickory. 40, 50 casts later I started to find Hickories again, landing 7 more and 1 river herring. Then the menu changed. After more than 2 hours of focused effort I landed my first American, and I only ended up with 2. No more Hickories. I think that the barometer action subdued the fish activity. There was no reason not to believe the place was as full of fish as it had been lately.
Rusty Balls | | Monday April 12th 5:55 am
Report from Easton on Saturday..fished with Steve from 6-4..caught 17 mixed bucks & roe..slowed way down in the afternoon
George Horvath | Trenton | Sunday April 11th 10:16 pm
The herring arrived at Trenton this evening.
ShadHarris | Gap area | Sunday April 11th 6:09 pm
Gap report - boat today, waders yesterday morning. Yesterday my buddy and I waded NJ side in the park for 2.5 hours, and I landed 6 with over 10 hits, and my shad buddy got 9 and as many bumps. One other angler, and he got a few as we left. Fly rod guy coming down the bank as I left. We headed up there this morning with boat same area and anchored in all the usual best spots to anchor and it was dead. One hit. Wasted 2 valuable hours. Went back south to the launch found 6' of water in wider slower shallow water surrounded mostly by 4' or less. Not really what I would call a channel but still 2' deeper than the rest of the wide slower stretch. Just enough current to have a spoon wobble but spoons were waste of time we only got one on a Dave's blade orange/yellow small spoon. Low clear water - dart time. I had two rods out with 1/8 ounce inline sinkers and 1/32 ounce hot pink head white body darts and they were getting lit up. Tried fishig 1/4 ounce closer to boat but could not get bit - not enough current to get it to lay right. Eventually switched over to all light weights and 1/32 ounce darts of hot pink or bright green chartreuse. All rods then getting hit wide left wide right 45 degree rods and right down the middle. We found the slot. The bite slowed around noon and I rigged up a rod with a 3 way swivel, 1/32 ounce bright greenie on the longer leader and a 1/16 ounce hot pink head white body on the shorter leader. Very light setup - took one long cast and set - instant hookup... Hot rod now - all else being ignored. Changed over one of the spoon rods to same exact setup and that rod then took over. If you picked one of those up and twitched it - all the better and often rewarded with a hit. Those rods were the hot rods rest of the way in 55 degree crystal clear water in rain all day. Quit before 3pm started at 7:30 but first two hours were wasted. 32 netted - lots of other hits never hooked. Far from what I would call "wild" or quality shad fishig but the two us had one triple header landed and one double rest all singles so just a slow, steady pick except for some 30 minute lulls and the last hour basically nothing hence we left. Only once, did two shad hit the double dart rig and of course it snapped the 8lb floro leader and only ended up with an average buck. Not one other person fishing from shore and no other boats.
Kyle | Pen Argyl | Sunday April 11th 6:41 am
Fished lower mt bethel area, water 54 degrees, fished 1-430 landed 5 lost 4, caught down riggers on mix of spoons and darts.
charlie 1st | | Saturday April 10th 10:43 pm
We caught a couple here and there between new hope and tinicum today. A bit of a slow pick through out the river. Even mix of roe and buck. Flutterspoons on flat lines with a 1/4 oz weight worked best a couple on crankbait rigs too.
Mike Dudas | Piscataway | Saturday April 10th 6:25 pm

Charles Mcquaid | Above Shawnee | Saturday April 10th 5:05 pm

Try west end beach in Port and DEC access in Sparrowbush
Eric | Pond eddy | Saturday April 10th 2:30 pm
Curious about the fishing around port jervis up to the manguap river? Feels like it’s almost time.
George Horvath | Trenton | Saturday April 10th 2:25 pm
Caught nothing in four trips to the Delaware River in Lambertville and Trenton with flutter spoons. Another fisherman caught his first shad, a 21” roe that swallowed his spoon. I took pics and he gave me the fish. Pickeled shad is good.
Dennis J Scholl | Hellertown | Friday April 9th 5:15 pm
Joseph, the shad you saw jumping must have been a) happy, b) chased by humongous stripers, or c) thrilled by sensing the presence of fresh water, or d) none of the above. Years ago I saw a lot of them exposing their dorsal fins just below the New Hope rapids but I can't say I've ever seen them breaching the water outside of being hooked. Pretty neat.
Riverwolf | Coopersburg | Friday April 9th 10:46 am
River stage 5.4 Water temp 54......Lots of fish south of Easton.....Fish are seen jumping....River in great shape....clear and warming up.....scale down to smaller darts and spoons in the clear water...spotty catches up at the Gap....
Joseph C. | Phoenixville & Princeton | Friday April 9th 8:29 am
I grabbed an hour's fishing at the Trenton bridge yesterday. It happened to be right at the slack of high tide which is not much good there, generally. With 5 guys fishing I only saw one buck caught and not by me. It was a beautiful afternoon, though. Funny thing, I saw shad breaching out on the river, just jumping straight up all the way out of the water and coming down with a big splash. I've never seen that before and yesterday I saw it 4 or 5 times, clear as clear. Any explanations?
RPS | Greeley | Thursday April 8th 8:32 pm
Caught my first shad of this season at Zane Grey tonight water temp. was 52 deg. just the one on double dart rig casting from shore.
Ed | Reading | Thursday April 8th 6:37 pm
Anyone have any reports/information about fishing at Conowingo?
| | Thursday April 8th 10:18 am
Lose the crankbait if you are casting from shore
Jesse Wit | Kintnersville | Thursday April 8th 8:43 am
Whats up ya'll, my name is Jesse. I just moved back to upper Bucks county and I am excited to be able to fish the shad run again. I'm looking for some shoreline access (doesn't have to be easily accessible either) between say Lambertville and Mitford. I'm gonna be fishing from the bank casting flutter spoon off a crankbait. Help a brother out!!! Thanks
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Thursday April 8th 7:15 am

Robert Wright | Montague | Wednesday April 7th 11:16 pm
I guess the guy from Tunisia was trying to tell us the shad are in. Get this pos off the blog
Robert Wright | Montague | Wednesday April 7th 8:16 pm
Dingmans ferry closed. Fished Milford from 2 til 7. caught 4. Three bucks one roe. Flutterspoons. I wish people wouldn't fish so close to me when anchored. Water temp 51+, little wind, river clear, some algae
Riverwolf | Coopersburg | Wednesday April 7th 7:46 pm
Caught 10 today from 11 to 3......all fish caught after noon......Water temp 50......mostly small bucks.....
David | Philadelphia | Wednesday April 7th 5:45 pm
Gotcha. I might try a floating line and see what happens, but I only have 20 pound fluoro with me. Guess I'll just go straight 20 haha. I also have a 7ft poly leader I can put on - that might do the trick as well.
Doug DeFanti | Coopersburg | Wednesday April 7th 4:45 pm
I was on the river this morning fishing with Charlie 1st. We stopped counting at 25 shad. Some of the roe weighed 5lb. There were numerous Chinese fire drill doubles. The shad slammmed Kevin Ingram's flutter spoons and the spoons held up well. It looks to be a great run this year.Hope the weather holds and the river stay at this very fishable level.
Duff | | Wednesday April 7th 1:54 pm
I use a floating line. Too many snags with a sinking line. 9ft leader to cover 3->6ft depths
David Feng | Philadelphia | Wednesday April 7th 1:32 pm
To clarify, I'm basically jigging them up and down as they swing across the current, and the grabs are usually right as the dart falls back down the water column.
David | Philadelphia | Wednesday April 7th 1:31 pm
Joseph - thanks for the tip! I'm gonna keep at it - will try my gold/silver kreelex streamer tomorrow and see how it goes. Should fish just as well, as my dart is falling apart from all the fish/snags! And Duff - thanks for those tips. I used to tie shad darts for the American shad out west, but unfortunately my vise and my materials are all at home in California. Running out of them already haha - gotta get a resupply going. Dunno where to buy em tho... I think I'm employing a similar method, except Im using a full sinking fly line so that it cuts through the heavy current. I get a bit more slack, but I also get more control and better sinking. Are you using a sink tip? I've tried it before, but I was never successful...
Bicycle Man | Scotch Plains | Wednesday April 7th 9:45 am
Worthington campground area yesterday afternoon. I was the only on shore, two boats showed up late but too far away to see if they were catching. Got one lively buck around 4:00 on a gold dart and a small bass at 6:00ish. So much information here, I feel a bit like a dinosaur using a single dart. I'll try a further South later this week or weekend. Thanks!
Duff | | Wednesday April 7th 9:17 am
Dave - Like Joe said. I make simple two color yarn/chenille flys with a tail of hair or flash that look like a dart. I weight them wrapping with lead. Work them like a dart in the seam - let sink, strip, let drop, strip, let drop. Shad grab it when it drops. I find with a flyrod you can stay in the strike zone longer.
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Wednesday April 7th 7:28 am
Way to go David! Our east coast shad are worth the drive. David, the fly people I've talked with don't use darts as much as they use flashy streamers on the shortish side. Picture gold hooks in the size 4 or 2 range, some glitterboo and a fluorescent bead. I think they're not trying to get too deep and thereby avoiding leaving too many hooks in the bottom.>>>>>...And, please, unnamed one, let sleeping trolls lie!
Joseph C. | Phoenixville | Wednesday April 7th 7:20 am
I had less than an hour to try my luck at the Trenton bridge yesterday at lunch time. It was slack high tide and nobody was catching anything but bottom. I was slinging my double dart rig in defiance of the common wisdom that only flutter spoons are to be used there. After 20 minutes I had a hit which turned out to be a double header, both smallish bucks. One broke off before I could get to unhook it. I didn't get another touch for the remaining 25 minutes I was there. Nobody else got anything. It was a stellar day and good for my soul just to get outside.
TeamToothy | Easton | Tuesday April 6th 10:07 pm
Got my first of the season tonight from shore and lost another. Water temp was about 52 around 5:00pm.

Sorry no .... but Carl has some corn if you need though......
David | Philadelphia | Tuesday April 6th 1:38 pm
Also, on a related note... Anybody got some shad darts/shad flies they are willing to sell? I think the Skuke has more of my shad flies than I do...
