Fishing Log

Good 2 hour 40 minute session late afternoon. Went 18 of 21 hook ups all on on darts. Small pink and white, small green chartreuse or small candy corn. Really didn’t seem to matter. 3 roe to 4 lbs nothing big. River is right at normal level but is dropping fast. Water temps about 52.

Finally got on some shad N of water gap. Latest it took for me to land first shad in many years. Went 6 for 11 on a small short shank spoon. One nice roe the rest bucks. Tried a bit north first but no hits and heading a bit south made the difference. River is about normal level and 50 degrees.

Joseph C. Yes, we met at the Art Museum fish ladder two seasons ago, it may have been last year but my memory on such things is fading too. I do know we talked and you showed me some things and gave me a shad spoon. Thank you for the tips, I may try on more time this week.

1st outing for Shad today. Fished between Bushkill and Milford. No Shad yet. Water seemed to be a bit cold still. Should be just a matter of time. Charles Mc.

George B, I think I might have met you there before, but my memory for such things was never good and isn't improving with age. That said, I find the best fishing to be when the tide is flowing pretty well. I've fished there for hours around the top of the tide without a bump and had it turn on with a bang as the tide drops to some magic point. Right now the temp is about perfect, I think. It was over 60F on Friday and is hanging at about 58.5 or so now. The last time I was there catching fish the cormorants were all resting on a log hung up on the dam when I got there and were all in the water as I began to get hook ups.

Got about 3 hours in at Delaware Water Gap. River is still high and at 49.2*F but there are some shad around. Landed two and missed one. Pink & Chartreuse on poor-mans & dipsys.

I finally made it to the Art Museum today, fished for about 2 hours before high tide. Nothing, nothing happening. It looks like the cormorants are bored too.

Switched over to stripers today for the season. Landed one about 24" and lost one.

Fished Zane Grey from shore 2:30 - 4:30 pm. caught 3 fall fish and 0 shad water tamp.48 deg.

Fished for three hours. Caught one roe, windy, plenty of river snot, temp 48 degrees.

Fish for hour and a half. 0 Shad 1 bass. Water still quite cold. Patience. They will be here.

@George B... It works and is a healthy, too. Should very good fishing there this week. If you want to catch more Hickories I'd try the old Phoebe spoon. The Americans should be there in good numbers as well.

We did good today with a good steady bite for about 2 hrs, even mix of roe and buck about 12 or so total. Poor mans D rigger caught the fish.

Does anyone know if the shad run on the Potomac is really on fire yet thanks in advance planning a day trip the 7th so just wanted to know thanks in advance

Thanks George B! I can't see how to get down onto the west side of the river from Spring Garden Street, but will be happy to learn......I did what I thought might work yesterday morning and found a nice place to park on Girard Ave. My friend and I then walked down a block to Landsdowne Drive and around the bend to Sweetbriar. From there it was an easy walk down the MLK to the fishing area. It was spooky - wide open and almost nobody in sight the whole way. Fishing was pretty good, I landed 2 Hickories my first 2 casts. From then it was a slow pick, as it seemed pods of fish cycled around the basin. The falling tide brought a change in that after 4 Hickories it switched to American Shad. I landed 2 and lost a couple more after solid hits. I also landed 2 catfish, both snagged in the tail. Not bad for early season there. Water temp was just over 51F. I fished from 11:30 to about 2:00.

Put me down for 6 more between 3 and 5 pm, even mix of roe and buck mostly on poor mans D Riggers some on casting darts.
