Fished north of dingmans from 2pm to 7pm Boated 3 lost 3. Water temp 63, clarity good, some river snot. No wind. Not much action tonight

First try, I fished for an hour at lunch time from shore below Lambertville. In this order I caught 1 Hickory, 1 Herring, 1 Striper, and 1 Smallmouth. All on the same double dart rig. No American. On the way home I went through Philly and tried low tide on the Schuylkill. There were lots of rocks showing and the current was running fast. It was a Hickory circus. I caught about 5 Hickories to each American and ended up with 6 American. And 1 catfish. I lost 5 or 6 rigs as the fish wrapped my line around sharp rocks in the fast current. 10# braid...poof! It was an excellent 1.5 hours of fishing and I left them biting.

Fish north of dingmans from 3pm to 730. No action until 530. After 530 the river woke up. Boated 21 in last two hours. After catching over 200 shad this year, I kill my first fish. Gut hooked buck. Water temp 58, windy till 5pm, water clarity good.

Fished Zane Grey from shore tonight 3 - 5:30 caught 1 had another hit still a little windy water temp. 63 deg. Been tough fishing up where the night time temps keep dipping into the lower 30's.

Fished Zane Grey tonight 4 - 5:30 caught 0 not even a bump. Water temp. was 56 deg. 4 fishing only saw 1 shad caught. Wind was bad too.

Fished Zane Gery tonight 3:30 - 6 from shore hooked 8 landed 7 wind was nasty tonight had to wait for lows to cast, Fished double dart rig 1/8 and 1/16 oz. darts slow retrieve.

Been a super slow start to the season. Been lucky to get 1 a day. Water temps finally increased last night to 56. Picked up 5 on the east side of river and 7 at the top below the rapids.Guys on bank and boats tight to shore also doin well. Think the main run will soon arrive.

Fished Lambertville bridge for a couple of hours this morning. Hooked 2, boated 1. About 5 other boats caught 4-5. Water low, slow and clear. Where are the shad? Main run past Lambertville?

Fished N. of Dingmans yesterday 4/5 from 7 to 4. Landed more than 40 and 1 9lb channel cat. Water temp 52 and clear and clean. Most fish were Roes and very healthy looking. All fish were released in the net to live a happy life. Most were barely hooked. Great day out with my best buddy Joe Lutz. TIGHT LINES!

I got by the Fairmount Dam yesterday afternoon just in time for the top of the tide. It was a 1st cast Hickory and then pretty good fishing for the next couple hours. I ended up with around 15 Hickories, 3 American, 1 Herring, and 3 catfish (!) I lost another half dozen good fish, probably American. I don't know why the catfish were so bitey. I've caught one on occasion, but never three, and all on darts. The Americans were feisty and the Hickories all as crazy as usual.

Tried River for an hour or so, 5 till 6, from shore but able to reach main channel at a thin part of the river, pink n green darts, river temp 53ish ,caught nothing! Tackle shop guy said he thinks main body of fish is still south of Pike, for what its worth. Thanks everyone for the updates, its encouraging

Must have gotten some bad information on the shad in the Susquehanna. No closed seasons in the last 20 years that I know of. The location of the old bridge piers is at least a half mile down river from Deer Creek.However the lovely folks at Excelon have posted no trespassing signs on the gate to the trail down river from the parking lot. Avian bird flu.

I recall NJDF&W contracting Lewis, Lambertville to net them. The shad were placed in a circular pool with circulating pumps, the shad swimming in the circular current. Grabbed individually by hand the shad were stabbed, near the dorsal fin, with a spaghetti tag. Often it was stab -"miss", stab - "miss", and on,...until a tag was finally anchored in the flesh. Many of the shad released were partially descaled from the net / handling. Some swam away upstream,....some lay still on the bottom of the river,.......others became "down-runners": captured downstream,..never having reached their spawning grounds. Who knows, perhaps all the well-meaning catch & release angling over the years is having a similar traumatic effect. 30 shad / day,....how many does one have to catch in order to be satisfied? A. Shad are fragile fish. From the egg stage to adult, every predator is after them.

Fished Zane Grey from shore tonight 3:30-5:30 hooked 3 landed 0 water temp. 53 deg. There were about 10 guys fishing and I only saw 1 shad landed and about 6 hooked and not landed. At lest the wind wasn't bad tonight.

Fished easton 7 to 10 caught 0 saw 1 or 2 caught.went south below Stockton caught 11 out of 14 all buck 1 to 3 pounds.good action for an hour then it shut down.

ShadHarris- Agree with you on the early runners as in the past I have caught fish the last week in Feb at the now gone Trenton Power plant, In my experience the main run always came through the lower river in mid April, but his year the fish have been far and few between down my end!

ShadHarris- Not sure what you are perplexed about, the fish just are not there the way they used to be. Yeah I know that sometimes some people might find a school and have a decent day, but I Remember how it used to be back in the late 80’s when you could catch them all day long and get into to some 7 & 8 lb roes. it hasn’t been that way for over 20 years! Some might theorize that fish populations are cyclic others may argue that it is due to mismanagement! You be the judge!

Fished north of dingmans from 1230 to 630. Boated 31, lost over a dozen. Some wind, water receding, temp between 48 and 51. Clarity ok. Wind a pain in the ass. Going out tomorrow around 1pm, reportedly little to no wind.

Tough night just N of gap. My buddy and I each got 2 from shore. Water was barely 49-50 on my mercury thermometer. It was windy at times but conditions felt like it should have easily been a 20+++ shad a person session between 3:30 and 6pm but the fish said otherwise. I think 3 days of chilling falling temps took its toll. But wtf do I know ?

Fished from 10 noon to 5pm. Boated 41, lost several. Water temp 51, clarity getting better, falling rivet, horrendous wind.
