Fished Easton yesterday ..went 6 for 10..a couple nice roe in the mix..lost a big roe behind the boat
Estcu | Hamilton | Wednesday April 1st 10:31 pm
Joe, I stayed through low tide and 1.5 hour into incoming at trenton today and nothing. Hope I calmed your fears :)
Joseph C | Phoenixville / Princeton | Wednesday April 1st 7:23 pm
I did another hour's casting practice at the Trenton fishing spot this afternoon. It should have been awesome, with the tide dropping and the water approaching 50F. I only saw one shad landed, a nice roe. There were 8 or 10 guys fishing, and just the 1 shad. Fortunately, it was my dart that hooked it. I'll bet the action caught fire right after I left.
Joseph C. | Phoenixvlle / Princeton | Wednesday April 1st 7:33 am
I spent an hour at the bridge in Trenton yesterday. Nada. I saw 1 fish landed by a guy fishing with his son in a boat 50 or 60 yards out. I think the tide was fine, the water flow rate and clarity were fine and the temperature was just a bit too cold. I was throwing darts, which is contrary to most guys fishing that locale, but the spoon chucker next to me wasn't doing any better than I was.

Are they letting any fish deer creek and below? I know fisherman park is closed but don’t know if they are enforcing anything down the rivef
Tony | Bulls island | Tuesday March 31st 9:16 am
Only landed 11 yesterday,1dead sticking,5 on crankbait and torpedo rigs, nothing casting. Water was very dirty in spot a and b,had to run up river around 3 miles for cleaner water above a tributary that was dumping chocolate milk on pa side.

THE SHAD HOTLINE HAS BEEN ELIMINATED DUE TO THE MONTHLY COST OF 70 DOLLARS, CHECK FACEBOOK OR THIS SITE FOR REPORTS..SORRY JUST TRYING TO SAVE MONEY FOR THE DRSFA
Phil M. | Sandyston | Tuesday March 31st 1:34 am
Keith, They move in cold water, but don't feel like striking. Once the water hits almost 50 they can be goaded into hitting lures. When I fish from the shoreline, almost all my fish are caught downstream of me, by dangling a dart in their face as the lure drifts downstream and deep. The standard 45 degree cast upstream is for trout/bass, as you probably know.

The curse of R-ville is over! Put in a lot of time and finally did 1 for 2! Another nice trip on the river. Also want to commend those folks practicing good social distancing! Folks were taking turns on the dock, spread out on shore and obviously boat traffic was nothing. Three boats out today including me. Now, some folks at the launch are not social distancing well...if you are talking with someone and they keep walking away (like me) don’t follow them!..or lean all up on their boat...or try to climb in the car window while launching...my goodness! Our president has asked us all to do our part, let’s! Be a germaphobe now and let’s fish this season and next! Out on Thursday for next trip, hope numbers are better! But hey 1 is better than none! Anyone know how to make these things taste better?
UMA DaKURTZ | BUSHKILL | Monday March 30th 2:39 pm
No more shad fishing hot line?
Dennis J Scholl | Hellertown | Monday March 30th 2:06 pm
I'm reading these posts and would like to inform the disheartened anglers that it is still March. While we have had warmer overall temperatures, it is still March. I don't think the timing of the run will change much from what its been in the past. I'm now retired so I have time to get out, but I'm in no hurry. Once the sun starts shining consistently, the river will warm up and the shad will begin biting. Not to worry. Binge watch Ozark on Netflix. It's great!
Uncle Bob | Quakertown PA | Monday March 30th 1:11 pm
Keith. Shad will move in cold water, it that they don't bite aggressively usually until the water warms up to 50ish. Current and channel edges are often the key to hits. When fishing from a boat i usually try to find the edge of the channel, especially if it combines with a current break, slower water alongside it. As Rusty said they follow those edges.
rusty balls | | Monday March 30th 1:04 pm
also have downrigger release clips
Rusty Balls | | Monday March 30th 1:00 pm
Keith yes u can text or call me at 484-239-4723...I take paypal or credit cards..i ship usually same day...spoons are 15 a dz...darts are 7 a dz plus 4 shipping..i also have river anchors, diver plugs, downrigger balls, in line weights
Joseph C. | Phoenixvlle / Princeton | Monday March 30th 11:54 am
Keith, not to discourage you, but once you catch a feisty shad, trout fishing will never be the same. Maybe the big lake run fish like they get up in Pulaski would be something to pursue, but shad are the wonders of our waters here, IMO.
Keith | Home in Narberth | Monday March 30th 11:32 am
Phil M. -- Thank you for your tips. My boys are persistent. We have logged approximately 50 person hours of fishing over the past few years and not had a strike yet. We will keep learning and keep trying (at lease until we get distracted by trout fishing season). It is helpful to know that the shad wait for the warmer water before surging further upstream. What water temperature is likely to get them moving again? Rusty B. -- Can we order darts and spoons from you and receive them by mail?
Rusty Balls | | Monday March 30th 8:09 am
fished Easton sunday from 11-6..got one right away, that was it for the day..water temp dropped..was 49..dropped to 46-47
Phil M. | Sandyston | Sunday March 29th 9:37 pm
Keith, they won't be in fast current until the water warms up. Fish the outside edge of the current, meaning the current closest to the shoreline. They try to stay only close enough to the main current to be sure they're on the right-track upstream and to conserve energy. Hate to see kids get shutout. But they won't be in fast water any more than you or me would stand in a cold wind for any length of time. Good luck.
Keith | Stockton | Sunday March 29th 8:20 pm
My two boys (ages 12 and 15) fished for 2 hours at Stockton this afternoon (2:30-4:30 PM). We from shore on the PA side from right under the Center Bridge to about 150 yards down stream (covered some fast moving water and a nice eddy below the bridge). Not a single strike in 6 person-hours of fishing--though this could be related to our lack of experience. We lost several darts and flutter spoons to snags. I suspect there is a lot of debris in the water there. Water temp read 44 degrees on my thermometer. Turbidity was moderate (I could see my dart, down through about 20 inches of water).
Tony | Riegelsville | Sunday March 29th 4:16 pm
Reiglesville is my kryptonite this year. One of my favorite places to fish and nothing again today. I did see one guy land 2. Everybody else said nothing. In 6 trips to Riegelsville I have only landed 3 shad so far this year,in contrast I have landed a 130 shad in 5 trips to bulls island. I will be back trying bulls island tomorrow and let you know how I make out.my temp gauge read low 45s in reiglesville today an another gentleman said he had 47. I don’t know which was closer to actual temp but I did have 47.9 at bulls island yesterday. So my gauge maybe off a little and the water is warmer than I think down there.

Thsnk you for the reply re: closures. Glad to hear things are open. I do and will practice safe proceedures. I figure sitting in a boat in good virus killing sunshine while staying more than six ft away from others sounds like I am doing my good civic duty!! Good idea re trash n handrails.
Tony | Bulls island | Sunday March 29th 6:34 am
Different bite yesterday probably waited to long to start fishing. Landed 22,nothing casting or on a crankbait rig,6 on a torpedo rig,16 flat lining. Fished 3 hours water temp started at 47.9 and dropped the whole time. The pouring rain turned the water from clear too being able to see maybe a foot by the end. The creek above me was pouring in chocolate milk water. You could visibly see the discoloration between the pa side and jersey side of river. They hit well to start nothing for last hour with the dirty water.
She got a horse | Riegelsville | Saturday March 28th 9:11 pm
In response to Uncle Bob of Q-town: there are no longer closures (at this point) of outdoor access points for outdoor recreation in PA. That said, we all need to do our part so the “craziness” and “overreactions” are not legitimate. I wipe down the boat launch railings with disinfectant when I’m there. Practice social distancing. I pick up boat launch trash with gloves. Let’s all do our part! The Shad run together in schools, we congregate around the schools and it’s simple biology to put the math together. Let’s support each other so we all fish next season as much as this season!!tight lines and healthy families to you all!!!!!
ShadHarris | Caught in New Hope Area | Saturday March 28th 8:31 pm
boated 18 today in 6 hours. First 2 90 minutes 2 fish, then 16 between 12:30 and 2:30, then nothing at all until 4:20. Brutal weather, cold and rainy. Fish were well deserved - 4 roe, one 5.1 # was biggest. All on very small spoons and divers.
Uncle Bob | Quakertown PA | Saturday March 28th 3:30 pm
With the current craziness of the virus panic and ofter overreactions does anyone have any info on access closures? When the river drops a bit and warms up a few I would like to hit Martins Creek. I would hate to drive an hour only to see a chain across the drive. Thanks!!
She got a horse | Riegelsville | Saturday March 28th 1:08 pm
To the dude earlier this week with the sea nymph and the bad o-ring on your fuel hose fitting. If you get into a pinch, I have a brand new spare if you need it. See photo. Reach out on this board, I check it regularly.
TeamToothy | | Saturday March 28th 11:45 am
Joseph C, Not much good shoreline in Reiglesville. Lots of fast water through there but at the park where the creek meets the river there is a backwash there that they might rest in. Never tried it but always been curious. You’re better off down by cooks creek, there’s a little access there and some deeper water against the fast stuff that tends to hold a few walleye too.
Joseph C | Phoenixville, PA | Saturday March 28th 11:26 am
Tony or anyone who knows: I've never been to Riegelsville. Is there anywhere to cast from shore thereabouts? I would be happy to give it a try to expand my knowledge of the river a bit. Thanks!
Joseph C. | Phoenixville, PA | Saturday March 28th 11:21 am
I swung by to check out my old favorite spot on the Schuylkill last Wednesday, and found that they have the MLK Blvd. closed to traffic for the duration. I'm sure there are fish in other places in that stretch of the river, but I don't feel like the +half mile walk to get to my preferred area. Ah, well, we must all make accommodations with our present reality. Maybe if I could find a one of those battery powered hoverboards...
Kyle | Pen Argyl | Saturday March 28th 7:56 am
Fished Friday afternoon in lower mt bethel area with kids, water temp was 47, landed 3 Shad lost 2 & got 1 smallie . Caught on spoons on downriggers.
Tony | Bulls island | Saturday March 28th 6:52 am
Fished Riegelsville Thursday afternoon water was 42 degrees marked fish nothing would hit. Went to bulls island Friday water started at 45.9 and was 49.1 when I backed it in,landed 49 with some big roe mixed in. 41 of the 49 came casting,1 on a crankbait rig,4 on a torpedo rig,and 3 dead sticking. All on spoons, color didn’t matter size 1and2. Still sluggish marked a ton of fish, should have caught more with out casting.

@Riverwolf - I beg ya. Please bring back the shad hotline. It was actually a good luck charm for me on the drive up to the river and now I am 0-3 on outings this year. Hope all is well. Ill be back out Sunday again - Shad
TeamToothy | Easton-Martins Creek | Thursday March 26th 10:37 pm
I’m still batting a zero on Shad this year on 2 trips and the future forecast doesn’t bode well for these fish to really turn on. River staying chilly for now. Oh well, back at it tomorrow.

Next launch is tomorrow. Let’s see what happens in the middle D. Just a reminder to the young folks, wipe things down, keep distances. let’s do what we can to help us all in the covid age. Catch fish, not viruses! Will post how the R-ville stretch produces tomorrow.

Any reports from Conowingo dam yet?
Joseph C. | Phoenixville, PA and Ewing, NJ (with luck) | Wednesday March 25th 12:56 pm
Will the river be blown out on Tuesday from the rain???...…. You can check the USGS Delaware River Data pages for your own take on the situation. I look for Flow rates, Temps and sometimes Turbidity (how murky the water is.) You can't get pinpoint info for everywhere, but there are key monitoring locations like Easton and Trenton. There's also a site called Philly Rivercast which is location info specific to the Fairmount Dam. Good luck!
